The UK ministry of defence has announced a cut to their permanent forces, and a doubling of their Reserve forces.

ATEx 2012 – Short Report

62 Reserve Artiller Regiment mobilised Saturday to Glen Imaal. 2 * 4 Tube RUAG 120mm batteries deployed – co-located at Keogh’s forward. FDC deployed on Cemetry Hill. 2 * Fire Suooprt Teams deployed near Ogham Stone Junction. Series of IN shoots, recorded targets and fire plan including a 4 round fire for effect on last target. The Batteries were then handed over to the Artillery School to fire in support of PDF Standards course. Unfortunately no recruit training occurred as with previous years. Special thanks to the other Brigade units who supported the exercise with security, ransport and medical resources. Photo’s to follow!!

Retirement of 62 RAR Officers

Comdt Noel Kelly (BC No. 1 Bty) and Comdt Ger Gibson (Regimental 2 I/C) are set to retire before the year end. To mark their last Training Exercise, they both fired their last rounds, and were presented with mementos on Cemetry Hill following completion of live firing exercises. Members of the ‘Superimposed Battery’ including Comdt. Oliver Murphy (Rtd), Comdt. John Miley (Rtd) and Capt. Tony Burke (Rtd) were in attendance.

New Regimental Adjutant

Capt. Paul ‘Hopppy’ Hopkins takes over the duties of Regimental Adjutant with 62 Reserve Regiment. First test will be Annual Training Ex!!! – All eyes on the duty roster!

6 Regiment Plaque unveiled in Curragh Military Museum

Update from Comdt. Oliver Murphy (Rtd). The Military Musuem in DFTC has unveiled a plaque to 6th Regiment. From its inception in 1959 up until the unit was stood down in 2005 (as part of the amalgamation with 7 Regiment to form the new 62 Reserve Artillery Regiment) – approx. 9000 personnel served with the unit. The Plaque commemorates the unit and all the gunners who served.

Sgt. ‘Monty’ Monaghan RIP

Sadly we learn that Monty has passed away. Sgt Monaghan was a training Sergeant with 6 Regiment for many years. A legend Gunner about whom many stories are still told. May he rest in peace.

Comdt. Richie Armstrong appointed BC 2 Bty

Comdt. Armstrong returns to the Regiment following a stint at Brigade Head Quarters. He takes over command of 2 Battery following Comdt. Gibsons appointment as Regimental 2 I/C.
